Luka Doncic’s MVP quest gets major boost after Mavericks’

-

There was one thing that happened last season that infuriated Dallas Mavericks supporters, even if the team made the 2024 NBA Finals for the third time in franchise history and disproved everyone. It was not Luka Doncic who was named MVP. The time has come for Doncic to win his first MVP, as Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander both finished ahead of him despite having a strong case for the honor. Doncic doesn’t give a damn about individual awards since he is focused on winning the Finals, but because of a major shift from the Mavs, this season will be his greatest chance to earn MVP.

With the Mavericks’ new supporting group, Luka Doncic has a great chance to win MVP.
The Mavs improved all around this offseason, and Doncic will have the best supporting group he has ever had. Quentin Grimes, Spencer Dinwiddie, Naji Marshall, and Klay Thompson were added by Dallas, therefore he will have an easier season. With Thompson joining the team, Dallas’ shooting improved significantly, and the combination of these two players will cause havoc for the rest of the league. Since Thompson is one of the NBA’s top off-ball players, Doncic will constantly try to dish him a pass for an open three.

Even though Dinwiddie is an underappreciated addition, he will be a huge asset to Doncic. Dinwiddie is a versatile player who has already established a strong rapport with Doncic during his initial tenure in Dallas. He will find the game much easier because he can spot up as a shooter or bring the ball up the floor when Doncic wants a break.

Given their reputation as 3-and-D players and their capacity to close out while defending the hoop, Marshall and Grimes will complement Doncic well. These kinds of players usually flourish in Dallas’ offense because of the open looks he consistently produces, and he always helps elevate them.

Dallas’ new additions may cause Doncic’s stats to slightly drop from last season, but the team’s success is expected to soar. The Mavericks finished the previous season with a 50–game record; however, they might have won 60 games if they had started Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington the entire season.

After the trade deadline, Dallas was among the NBA’s hottest teams; with these new players, they’ll be fighting for the top seed in the Western Conference. In the competition for MVP, team performance has become crucial, and Doncic and the Mavs might have yet another historic season.

Doncic’s chances of winning MVP should be bolstered by Dallas’ anticipated increased team performance, and he will be the center of attention for the whole season thanks to this newly assembled supporting group.
