Birmingham City transfers are ‘not finished yet’ after summer signing flurry

-

Birmingham City have overseen a very active transfer window to date this summer, but heading into the final stretch they’re not done yet.

Birmingham City aren’t yet done in the transfer window, as Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has outlined – and he, despite being a direct promotion rival in League One this season, has no problem with Blues’ hefty summer expenditure. Blues have thus far made 11 signings already, nine of them permanent additions, with still ten days to come.

Chris Davies has guided Blues to a haul of four points from their opening couple of games into the season, as well as progressing into the second round of the EFL Cup, but away from the pitch there is business still clearly to attend to; Blues have plugged numerous gaps in their squad, but there remains a need for at least a couple more new faces before the deadline passes. For MacAnthony, who since becoming chairman of Posh in 2006 has enjoyed four promotions and three separate seasons in the Championship, he has no issues at all with the money being spent by a league competitor – indeed Blues have spent more money this summer than the majority of Championship clubs, let alone their rivals in the third tier.

“I’ve no problem with what Birmingham have done,” MacAnthony said on his Hard Truth podcast. “If I was the size of that club coming down, we’d spent a long time in the Championship and we had that one year where we weren’t restricted with the cap, and we had that bit of time, I’d be like ‘we’re all in, we have to do this now, we might not be able to do this in year two’.
